"The Ghazal of Humanity"**

(**A Ghazal is a Persian/Urdu/Arabic poetic form consisting of rhyming couplets, a refrain and the poets name encorporated into the last couplet. This poetic form was practised by many famous mystics/poets such as Rumi, Ghalib and Iqbal in Persian/Urdu. The one below is one I have written in English, but strictly following all the rules of Ghazal.)

From the blood in the veins that you "chose" before beginning humanity,

For the nationalistic disease that arises and does nothing for uniting and winning humanity.

In the wake of the chaos, the loss of spirituality and the birth of Insanity,

Will you be the one amongst them to resist all, amongst this sinning of humanity?

In the typhoon which is the media , one word is sacred, and a dozen are defamatory,

This may be "freedom of speech"? But this surely isn't the grinning of humanity.

In an age where the dormant mind is the norm; the concern for others is no longer a formality,

Have we forgotten what Muhammad (saw) said? forgetting the underpinning of humanity.

In a world where intellect doesn't necessarily mean logic and rationality,

In a sphere fit for tyranny, oppression and evil, a dizziness and head-spinning of humanity.

And I, Saqib, only an onlooker to the grave onslaught of the human condition,

Such instances may be dire ; but there is still hope for prevention of the killing of humanity.
