Everywhere I go, I see her at the hub of the mainstream western life,
She has become an economic commodity,
Yet she was once known as the daughter, the sister or the wife.
I hurry through the busy streets look up at the billboards and see her part of this modern facade,
Her clothing seems to have decreased, year by year, decade by decade.
The logical human mind wonders, and sees the irony that has gradually transpired,
Placed in a TV advert, the weak man now buys the product, after being fixated on what he desired.
I flick the channel over; the daytime talk show beckons feminist cries:
“Why in Islam are women made to cover? I really don’t understand you guys!
I listen to this and think that great respect would come from modesty:
And how the Islamic way would give her rights, and protect her from becoming a financial commodity.
How it would protect her dignity from those daggers and lustful eyes,
How it would prevent greater sin, and prevent man’s demise.
The face of society, now more than liberal, core human values forcibly drowned,
Rather modesty is shameful isn’t it! How shameful does that sound?
After watching deluded media, don’t ever say to me, that my religion restricts and oppresses,
Look at reason, core family value, and then see what justice it stresses.
There may be those few, who have interpreted wrong and live with bitter hate.
But that is not Islam, The masses who follow truly, are those to which you relate.

MashaAllah, now that was absolutely amazing...I've felt the same way for so long, but the part about the women becoming an economic commodity, I never thought of it that way, but it's so true. Keep up the great work, you're poems are only getting better and better day by day. :)

The women in this soceity were never given rights.
They fought for some sort of recognition by society and were given a concept called equality and freedom.
These two notions have increased the suffering of women in society because women always aim to become like men and they become free to do almost anything (sex out side marriage etc).
Therefore, we should reject outright the notion of equality as for one it does not exist and it also results in a negative mindset.
Islam on the other hand, gave rights to women without the need for them to campaign for rights. Islam does not make responsibilities equal however, Allah (swt) through his wisdom has given man responsibilitis and women reponsibilities to produce a cohesive family structure and society.
Its kind of simple. But, the impact of this society has affected us that much that we view women from a sexist perspective rather than the perspective that they are a creation of Allah (Swt) and deserve respect.

I know it's important to take everything into account when talking about issues that are deep and affect a great number of people, but I don't agree with what you're saying at all. Despite sounding like a feminist... do you really think it necessary for women to be protected? Specifically by the men who look at them with "lustful eyes".
The simple imagery of a covered up woman shows that she has been forced into submission. This is the general, and perhaps wrongly stereotypical view from the western world, and society at large of Islamic life.
After all, I may not know what I'm talking about, but I just know that as a young woman myself, I would not take lightly being told to cover myself up for fear of tempting men. Surely it is them in the wrong, for having such evil thoughts in the first place? Why should men be allowed to go of their normal business around the busy city streets, yet women have to hide themselves, and ironically stand out even more when they're out in the public eye?
Even after all that though, I must say, you write beautifully. Choice of subject matter notwithhstanding, you know how to manipulate words with sophistication. You seem to have built up a fanbase. Don't let me spoil that.
Saqib: Thank you for commenting and reading, i am happy that you have brought these points up...firstly, in the verse where i spoke about lustful eyes and i refered to mans demise, i was speaking about mankind, as in man and women, not man..I have been looking into islam further (in islam we are asked to gain further knowledge so we understand) and therefore i have come across the following reason why women are required to cover up (on their own will ofcourse, or else it would'nt be sincere) : The Hijab allows a woman to move about outside the confines of her home with her attention on the tasks she has been set out to do. The Muslim woman does not try to impress anyone but Allah when outside of her home. She is not concerned if men find her attractive, or if people are impressed because she has the latest fashions, or the newest hairstyle. She leaves her home as a
self-confident part of the human race, not as a fashion-plate seeking stares and adoration in order to gain self-esteem.
The hijab cuts down on competition among women. How many people in the West sacrifice financial savings and health in order to have plastic surgery - in a desperate attempt to meet up to an unrealistic standard of beauty. In Islam, women are appreciated for their knowlege, piety and contribution to society
. When women wear hijab one finds that the most beautiful women are not necessarily the most popular. Rather, a woman is assessed for her mind, and not just superficial physical traits.
...when you commented, you spoke about why men can go about their business whilst women are confined, but this is not the case as men also have a "hijab" code of conduct to follow and are by no means confined, as seen in this verse in the Holy Quran:

I feel that like many others (and i dont blame you for this) have been influenced by ill-fated media. If you look further into the religion, i am adamant you will see the beauty behind it all, rather than give into western ironic concepts.
